Shona McCallin said: “It’s great to be back at Holcombe, who supported my dream to get an Olympic gold medal. I’ve got a lot of people to thank here and its great to see a lot of kids getting involved and new kids getting involved after watching us.”

The club’s chairman, David South MBE, said: “We’re extremely excited having the girls back, unfortunately we could only have three out of the four, but Maddie’s flown all the way over from Holland especially to come and see us and it means a lot to the club. We put on a very big day today with the juniors who are pleased to see them, which helps hugely with getting our junior system going.”

Jon Rye, Co-Chairman and Director of Hockey, said: “The success of Team GB Women’s Hockey Team has ignited the nation’s interest in our sport. This weekend has been a very successful one for Holcombe, with a unique opportunity on Saturday to celebrate the achievement of three #incredibleholcs and on Sunday our junior section officially started the season with 27 new faces attending, to add to our 280-strong, all inspired by that success.”

Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Tracey Crouch MP also welcomed the girls back to their home club. She said:”It’s fantastic that they’ve come back to their home club, they are a huge inspiration to the next generation, boys and girls, as they have returned as heroes.”
